Tearoom Catering Assistant

Based in our Grosmont Station

Seasonal - Weekend staff - starting from 8.30am to latest 5pm - 1 or 2 days - £12.00 per hour.

Would you like to join our friendly Tearoom Team, offering a first-class visitor experience to our customers, whilst working at one of Britain’s most popular Heritage Railways?

We are currently recruiting tearoom catering assistants for our Grosmont Station Tearoom, reporting to the tearoom supervisor. We are looking for candidates with experience in food preparation and service, who are flexible with working hours and thrives in a busy environment.

You will;

  • Assist in all aspects of food preparation and service to visitors and working members of the NYMR in a friendly, professional & profitable manner.
  • Maintain the cleanliness of the premises, to clean and wipe tables & keep the tearoom clean and well stocked.
  • Follow all health & safety procedures, ensuring good food hygiene practices are adhered to at all times, ensuring the tearoom retains its level 5 food standard rating.

Person Specification criteria;

Essential

  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Experience in a customer facing role.
  • Current Food Hygiene Certificate level 2 or above.
  • Own transport is required due to location.
  • To be friendly, hardworking and trustworthy.
  • The ability to work alone and as part of a team with excellent self-motivation.
  • Due to the busy nature of the tearoom the candidate must be able to work under pressure in this physically demanding role.
  • Flexible approach to work & hours - weekends and Bank Holidays are standard working days.
  • Must be available to work over school holidays and NYMR special events- steam gala’s, war weekend, Santa specials etc.

Desirable

  • Experience in a professional catering/kitchen operation.
  • Recognized practical catering qualification.
  • A sound knowledge of food preparation and service.
  • Cash handling & cashing up experience, although full training will be given.

Seasonal Hours of work;

  • We are looking for cover of weekend days (4 hour shifts).
  • Some extra hours during the week may be available.
