Pickering & Grosmont Services

Welcome to one of the world’s greatest heritage railway experiences with thrills and family fun at its heart. Climb on board a steam or heritage diesel train and experience Yorkshire’s amazing scenery between Pickering and Grosmont only. Services run every day up to the 31 October, we are then closed until our Santa Special services start in December.

As restrictions are easing, we feel that we still need to apply some caution, so whilst it is great to welcome you back, we strongly recommend our passengers wear a face covering, whilst in buildings, when on board our services and when moving around the train and on busy platforms (unless exempt). More Information

Internal Services: Hop-on Hop-off between Pickering & Grosmont

Choose to travel along the 18 miles of ever-changing scenery between Pickering and Grosmont Stations, calling at Levisham, Newtondale Halt (by request) and Goathland Stations along the way.

When you buy a Hop-On Hop-Off Ticket between two stations, you can explore the North York Moors National Park and board any available service (shown below) on the same day between those two stations.

Timetable: Up to 31 October 2021

S - Scheduled to be steam hauled.
S/D - Scheduled to be steam hauled subject to locomotive availability & diesel hauled if required.
DMU/P - On the following dates: 14, 15, 16, 17, 21, 22, 23, 24, 28, 29, 30 & 31 October, a steam hauled Pullman Dining Service with NO seating available for non-dining passengers; Diesel Multiple Unit train with standard seating on all other dates.

When purchasing a Return Ticket, you are only required to state the outbound journey, as you may return on any available Internal Service later that day. Internal Services are sold with limited capacity, subject to availability.

Off Peak Dates: 1-22 October. Peak Dates: 23 to 31 October.

Shorter journeys are available to purchase on the day from a station Booking Office and are priced on a per station basis (Off-Peak: Adult £9.50, Child £4.75 and Family Tickets). Please see our Fare Chart for full prices.

Services travel Northbound from Pickering to Grosmont/Goathland and Southbound from Grosmont to Pickering. Select your outbound direction:

Discounted Tickets

  • Members: All Member discounts are valid on all services, subject to availability. We recommend you pre-book in advance and you will need to enter your Valid Membership Number (found on the back of your Membership Card) when booking. **Member Family Tickets - All passengers need to be valid members to qualify.
  • Gift Vouchers & Outstanding Bookings: If you have been issued a Gift Voucher or have a booking held you can redeem these for our services via the Customer Service Team.
  • Carer Tickets: These can be booked online and you will be issued with a free ticket for your carer when you purchase a standard ticket. Wheelchairs and Pushchairs can be stored in the Guards Van. You must be able to transfer to your pre-booked seat
  • ATOC Cards: 75% off services. Only bookable through the Booking Office on the day. Subject to availability. Priv tickets are not available on Pullman Services or Special Event Days.
  • HRA Inter Rail: Can be used but can only be validated on the day of travel at a Booking Office. Subject to availability. Not valid for Special Events or Pullman Dining trains.
  • Shareholder Tickets: Can be used but can only be validated on the day of travel at a Booking Office. Subject to availability. Not valid for special events or Pullman Dining trains.

Occasionally, due to operational requirements, we may substitute a steam engine with a diesel locomotive. Prior to your visit, please ensure that you are able to fulfil your journey within the limitations of our reduced timetable.
