We play a crucial role in the local community, providing employment, volunteering and apprenticeship opportunities and programmes to help our visitors understand the important history and heritage of the railway and the North York Moors we run through. The railway is a key highlight for many holiday makers who would usually flock here as part of their stay.

£20: An engine requires £20 of oil each day to operate.
£50: The cost of a new shovel.
£100: A brake block costs around £100. Most Tender engines, such as Eric Treacy, have 12 and we usually change each of them every couple of months.
£250: A monthly washout costs around £250.00 in parts.
£500: A dozen firebars.
£1,000: Is the cost to repair a broken locomotive spring.
£2,500: A new boiler pressure relief valve (safety valve).
£5,000: A new live steam injector.
£10,000: Reprofile a locomotives tyres.

Please help to keep us steaming into the future by donating whatever you can. Your support makes an enormous difference to helping to keep us running.

Covid-19 Mitigations

Following the latest Government guidance, 27 January, you no longer need to wear a face covering, but out of courtesy to others please consider wearing one on board our services in crowded, enclosed spaces where you may come into contact with people you do not normally meet.
