Museum Collection

Welcome to the North Yorkshire Moors Railway Trust Museum Collection

Did you know that the North Yorkshire Moors Railway is accredited as a Museum by the Arts Council?

If you have travelled on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, or visited any of its stations, you will have seen a large number of the NYMRT’s artefacts and objects along and around the railway which are all part of bringing the history of this railway to life, and:

•  if you travelled on the NYMR, you may have been sat in a heritage carriage pulled by a heritage locomotive (steam or diesel powered)
•  been given an Edmondson ticket for your journey (currently from Goathland and Grosmont only)
•  alighted at heritage Stations
•  seen signs, signals and notices as you have travelled along
•  seen or visited workshops which enable the fleet of heritage and other rolling stock used on the railway to be maintained, overhauled and renovated
•  toured the Visitor Centre

There are many artefacts and materials not routinely on view – they may be too fragile or it may not be feasible to have them displayed permanently. However, we aim to make the full Collection accessible and this includes the items we hold within the Archive itself. Through these web pages, we aim to share the contents of the Collection and explain how you can find out more.
