Rolling Stock

The North East has a rich industrial history. The 200 year anniversary of the Stockton and Darlington Railway reminds us of the longevity of railways and their importance historically through to the present day in providing transport for goods and people.

The NYMRT’s own Museum Collection has a range of rolling stock, including steam and diesel locomotives, carriages and wagons. All of these vehicles are part of an important historical perspective on railway transport which the NYMR offers and ensures that visitors have the opportunity to see, use and learn about rolling stock from past times and how their evolution has led to the railways of today.

Delivering the required care and conservation of the rolling stock needs the input of the dedicated team of staff, volunteers and apprentices who have, or are supported to acquire, specialist skills in heritage engineering and conservation. All of these people help to keep our railway moving.

If you would like to know more about any particular vehicle, please contact the Archive who will be happy to help or direct you to the relevant person. In addition, if you would like to support the rolling stock funding on the NYMR you can donate to our current appeals.
