After careful consideration, we have made the decision to cancel our Through the Decades event, which was planned for 12th to 13th October 2024; we would like to apologise for any disappointment caused.

As a heritage attraction, we are refocusing our time on the NYMR’s core events and activities this year to make them even more spectacular than ever. These include our ever popular Annual Steam Gala and the renowned Santa Specials.

We’re also proud to announce that we’ll be collaborating with exceptional organisations and charities from across the whole of the rail industry to support the upcoming nationwide Railway 200 campaign. We are busy behind the scenes planning our programme of events and activities for Railway 200 which will take place in 2025.

We appreciate there will be a lot of disappointed people, but we hope everyone understands our decision, and that as many people as possible will still use the railway on the weekend of 12th-13th October, when our standard services will be running as usual.

Q&A

Why are we cancelling the event?
The Through the Decades event has been cancelled as we are refocusing our time on the NYMR’s core events and activities, such as the Annual Steam Gala and Santa Specials. We appreciate there will be a lot of disappointed people, but we hope everyone understands our decision.

What about the 40s Weekend? Are we going to continue this in some way?
Our passengers and visitors are more than welcome to come along dressed in the 40s attire and still be in the spirit of the decades. There are currently no plans to re-introduce the event in the future.

I’ve already booked, can I get a refund or change to another date. Will I still get the 12-month revisit pass that was offered?
Yes, you are able to get a refund up to 72 hours before your visit date or, we can change the date you wish to visit and, you would still receive your annual pass.

Will there still be trains running that I can travel on instead?
Yes, our daily services timetable will be in place and your annual pass can still be used for this weekend. We will be running the Red timetable on the Saturday and Blue timetable on the Sunday.

Are you going to offer a different event in its place?
We have decided to concentrate on our core events and will not be hosting a different event during this weekend. We will be running our standard Red timetable on the Saturday and Blue timetable on the Sunday.

I have read quite a bit lately, that you are in financial difficulties, is this the real reason you’ve cancelled this event, are you closing down?
The railway is not closing down, we have refocused our budgets to better reflect the core events and activities.

Are you going to cancel other events, what about Santa Specials, is it even worth booking?
Our Santa Specials are a family-favourite and they will be going ahead, tickets will be available to book in the near future, keep an eye on nymr.co.uk/santa-specials
