The Outstation The Outstation is the North Yorkshire Moors Railway’s Residential Community Engagement and Volunteer Development Centre located in Stape, North Yorkshire. We have created a well-designed (pdf plan of the The Outstation) and functional facility that provides a unique opportunity to engage in residential indoor, and camping based, activities for groups and organisations. This former school and outdoor activity centre offers a connection and insight into the heritage railway and living museum, along with conservation, volunteering, and education. The Outstation can accommodate up to 20 people across 10 rooms. The building has integrated heating, built-in air circulation system, fully equipped kitchen to cater for all residents, large fridge freezer and double oven with 6 ring hob. With Wi-Fi throughout, and a 75” connected TV, you will find everything you require for your residential stay. Individuals visiting the NYMR experience a distinct environment. Through seeing, touching, hearing, or feeling, you can see and experience genuine working heritage engines, carriages, buildings, magnificent natural environments, volunteering in action, interpretation that stimulates thought and bring interests to life. Our unique environment, which takes you out of the home, classroom, or workplace, will engage you in a curated experience and authentic materials where you will be able to challenge your preconceptions and think in new ways. When looking for a new location to do our residential trainee weekend, the Outstation was recommended as an option. We were not disappointed at all. The facilities are finished to an extremely high standard, many team members commented how much it had changed (for the better) since we last used it over 10 years ago! The bedrooms are well appointed, kitchen stocked with all the appliances, pots, and utensils a group could need, ample seating and eating area with clean toilets and good hot showers. Booking the outstation was extremely easy and all questions answered swiftly and thoroughly. We would use the outstation again for team events and will highly recommend it to others - Andrew Holtby, Training Office Scarborough and Ryedale Mountain Rescue Team. Heritage sites such as the NYMR offer us routes to our past, present and future, drawing on the material evidence of how we lived and the skills we possessed and practised. The NYMR provides a valuable route to understanding the railways in context of a time and place providing access to our heritage capital. The Outstation is a fantastic facility for groups with so much to offer onsite and locally. The site is a tranquil safe setting away from built up areas located in a dark skies reserve area. It is a fantastic base for activities and local walks both in the day and at night. The facility itself is well equip for group visits with a great kitchen space and helpful bedroom setup. From conferencing to mindfulness group residentials the site caters for all. Local walks in farmland and woodland offers near to site activities without the need for vehicle access. An ideal plus point to reduce travel and increase activity time - Mary-Jane Alexander, Youth Engagement Officer, Park Services. Through the Outstation we want to immerse ourselves and become a more integral part of local and wider communities. We want to ignite a relationship with you and offer you the opportunity to engage with the NYMR through the Outstation.
