Meet Bert Blower who is one of the many volunteers who keep the railway operating. Most of our passengers may not realise how reliant upon volunteers the North Yorkshire Moors Railway is. There are hundreds of volunteers up and down the line performing a variety of exciting and challenging roles. Once your perfect role has been discovered you could be helping out on the railway within days.

We are always looking for interested people who can spare some time. There are a wide range of volunteering opportunities available, covering virtually every aspect of the Railway’s activities. Whilst some roles require a significant time commitment, others do not. If you want to get your hands dirty, there are plenty of opportunities, but if manual work is not for you, there is also a wide range of choices. In some cases, you do not even have to come to the Railway to help us.

Earlier this year, the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) awarded NYMR £4.6M as part of the £9.2M Sustainability Project, NYMR's Yorkshire's Magnificent Journey Appeal. To help preserve the heritage line for future generations, the NYMR urgently needs to raise approx. £2.5M from members, passengers and the public over the next five years. We need your help!
