Join us for an enlightening journey with Ron Pickering, a distinguished historian and NYMR expert. Ron will lead you through the captivating history of the line, spanning from its inception to the present day in 2024. Delve into the fascinating story of how Whitby's necessity for connection to the rest of England spurred the creation of the railway, overcoming formidable challenges along the way. Discover how the perseverance of countless individuals transformed a dormant British Rail branch line into one of the most beloved heritage railways in the UK. Talk lasts approximately 1 hour, pre-booking required.

Looking for some hands-on fun? Join us at Pickering South Signal Box on Platform 2 at Pickering Station for exciting signal box demonstrations. Bring the kids along for a day of exploration and discovery! We'll explore the role of the Signaller and how important they are in ensuring safety on the railway, you can even try your hand at being a Signaller in this signal box! 🚦

1 June - Short NYMR Railway Film Screening with Talk

Celebrating our 50-year Anniversary in 2023 was a wonderful moment for the NYMR but how did we get here? Filmed in the early days of the Preservation Society this short documentary explores how a disused line was given new life. We’ll be joined by one of the film makers and some key figures in the film to talk about what drove the movement forward and their experiences at the NYMR, pre-booking required.
