North Yorkshire Moors Railway launches virtual shop

North Yorkshire Moors Railway (NYMR) has expanded its online shop to include a virtual store, which includes being able to purchase a virtual journey along the stunning heritage line, a tour of a steam locomotive’s footplate, and even a piping hot cup of Yorkshire brew or a bacon sarnie - all of which can be enjoyed whilst self-isolating on the sofa.

The virtual purchases have been launched in aid of the charity’s ongoing crisis appeal, which was launched last week to keep the UK’s favourite heritage railway on track to reopen later this year, after previously confirming it had delayed its season opening until further notice.

After making their purchase, customers will be taken to a unique page where they will receive a link to a video experience of the line. They can also rest assured that 100% of their donation will go directly to helping secure a future for the attraction.

Chris Price, General Manager at NYMR, comments: “Every item in our virtual store represents a similar product or service which supports the North Yorkshire Moors Railway. I can’t stress how much each and every gift purchased will massively help support the railway, and all donations made will make a really big difference to us here on the ground.

“These are undoubtedly really difficult times, and we’re asking for a fighting chance to keep going. As the situation currently stands, monetary aid hasn’t been offered to charities and with the potential for us to lose up to £1 million over the upcoming weeks, every penny people can spare will be gratefully received.

“Besides, this is probably the only bacon butty you can buy that won’t add on the calories!”
