No. 3170 - NER Autocar
In 1903 the North Eastern Railway built two of these Petrol Electric Autocars in the historic carriage works in York. Modernisation eventually meant these were converted to Diesel and saw use around much of the NER network around Hartlepool, Middlesbrough, York, Scarborough and Filey. In 1930, 3170 was withdrawn and was sent to Kirkbymoorside near Pickering to be used as a holiday home, where it remained for the next 70 years! When it was discovered, it was moved to the Embsay and Bolton Abbey Railway where it was restored, entering service in 2018. This 123 year old DMU is on loan to the NYMR courtesy of the NER Electric Autocar Trust. More history can be found on the trust’s website https://electricautocar.co.uk/
