This event has now concluded.

For details of current and upcoming special events at the NYMR, please visit our What’s On pages.

Heritage Open Days is England's largest festival of history and culture, and each September the North Yorkshire Moors Railway takes part with a programme of tours, talks and exhibitions across our stations and engineering sites.

NYMR is a registered charity and an accredited museum, and these events are a chance to go beyond a normal day out and see the people, places and stories behind the railway, from the archives to the locomotive sheds.

Entry to all events is free. Some sessions are drop in, others suggest pre-registering by emailing [email protected], so do check the details for each one below.

ECJS 189 Coach Internal LNERCA

LNER Coach Association Open Day (Pickering)

The LNER Coach Association (LNERCA) is throwing open the doors of the Atkins Building in the Pickering Station car park.

Inside the shed, volunteers will be on hand to show visitors around ECJS 189, a dining saloon carriage built in 1894 for the East Coast Joint Stock. Visitors will be able to see the restoration work up close and explore an interactive touchscreen display, which tells the story of ECJS 189’s restoration and showcases the other carriages in the LNERCA collection.

Dates: 13 and 20 September
Times: 09:30 to 16:30
Meet: Entrance to Atkins Shed, next to the car park Pay & Display machine in Pickering Station Car Park
Booking: Drop in

While entry to our Heritage Open Days events is free, why not combine your visit with a journey on the railway? A Day Rover ticket lets you hop on and off all day between Pickering, Goathland, Grosmont and Whitby, or choose a Shorter Journey ticket if you would rather explore just one or two stations.

Either way, it's a great way to see more of the North York Moors and take in the stations, sights and history along the line. Please check our Timetable for available services.
