About Grosmont

Grosmont (pronounced 'Growmont') was once a hive of industry but is now a peaceful village huddled in the Esk Valley. The village owes its size to the discovery of ironstone in 1836, when George Stephenson's original railway from Whitby to Pickering was being built. Although the ironstone industry is long gone, the railway still dominates the village.

Grosmont Tea Room is a great location to view the end of the heritage line and where the main rail network begins, connecting both Middlesbrough and Whitby to the NYMR via the Esk Valley Line.

Pullman Dining

Grosmont is also the starting point of our Pullman Dining Service where guests are able to experience an unforgettable meal on board one of our first class parlours. The luxurious carriages are a stylish sanctuary with observation windows perfect for watching the scenery unfold. Your dedicated Pullman Train Manager is on hand, from welcoming you on-board, to bidding you farewell at the end of your journey.
