1. CCTV SYSTEMS
Purpose
CCTV systems are in place in some areas of NYMR for public safety, security, and operational purposes.
Legal Basis
We process CCTV images based on our legitimate interests in ensuring the safety and security of our visitors, staff, and property.
What we capture
Video footage of public areas including stations, platforms, and other railway premises. Some CCTV systems also capture audio.
Signage
Signs notifying you that CCTV is in operation are displayed in areas where CCTV is active.
Retention
CCTV images are not kept for longer than is necessary unless required for ongoing investigations or legal proceedings.
Sharing
CCTV footage may be shared with relevant legal authorities (police, regulatory bodies) where required for prevention or detection of crime, or to comply with legal obligations.
Your Rights
You have the right to request access to CCTV footage showing you (subject to verification of identity and protection of other individuals' privacy).
2. LIVE STREAMING WEBCAMS
Purpose
Live streaming webcam systems are in place at some locations across the railway to:
Promote heritage railway tourism
Provide remote access for individuals unable to visit physically
Support educational purposes
Engage the heritage railway community
Legal Basis
We process webcam images based on our legitimate interests in promoting heritage railway preservation, providing accessibility, and engaging with the railway enthusiast community. We have completed a Legitimate Interest Assessment which demonstrates that our interests are not overridden by your privacy rights in this public tourist setting.
What we capture
Live video feeds from cameras positioned at stations, platforms, and lineside locations. Webcams capture visual images and ambient sound. The cameras are positioned for wide-angle views and do not provide high-definition close-up identification capability.
No Recording
Webcam feeds are transmitted live only and are not recorded or stored. The transmission is temporary processing only.
Where feeds are broadcast
Live feeds are broadcast publicly via YouTube and may be embedded on our website or third-party platforms.
Signage
Signs notifying you that live streaming is in operation are displayed at entry points to areas where webcams are active.
Your Rights
If you object to being captured on our live webcams:
- You may contact us at [email protected] to register your objection
- We will consider your objection on a case-by-case basis
- Where we cannot accommodate your objection due to our legitimate interests, your options include avoiding camera areas or choosing not to visit
Given the nature of NYMR as a public tourist attraction where extensive photography by visitors already occurs, privacy expectations in webcam areas are limited.
