Also taking place during this traction-packed event, see various freight trains being moved up and down the line and the award-winning and much-loved steam tram, No. 8 ‘Lucie’, will be on pilot duty at Levisham Station.

Visiting Locomotives

No. 60163 Tornado

Tornado will be visiting courtesy of the A1 Steam Locomotive Trust. This new build steam locomotive Tornado may look like something from a bygone age but it was, in fact, completed in 2008, built from scratch by a dedicated team of volunteers. In the last decade the engine has found fame on large and small screen, appearing in the Paddington 2 movie and starring in Top Gear’s Race to the NorthTornado is also famed for reaching 100mph in secret night time tests in 2017, making it the first steam locomotive to reach such high speeds since the 1960s.

8F No. 48305

48305 LMS 8F Class 2-8-0 Will be visiting courtesy of the Great Central Railway. Designed by William Arthur Stanier this heavy goods engine was capable of pulling 1000 ton trains and was to be one of the most successful locomotive designs of all time. Originally this locomotive operated over the LMS system until 1948, when the railways were nationalised, and then operated over most of the network across Britain.

Another legendary locomotive is yet to be announced, watch this space.
