We are pleased to unveil the fourth guest locomotive for the line up of its Annual Diesel Gala which will be held from Thursday 11th - Sunday 14th June 2026. Spanning four action-packed days, the event will showcase the very best of Britain’s diesel heritage, with a line-up set to excite rail enthusiasts and newcomers alike.
Joining the previously announced Class 35 ‘Hymek’ No. D7017, BR Class 14 D9553, and Class 20 No. 20166, the NYMR will also welcome:
-
Class 37 No. 37250 courtesy of Vince Minto and The Wensleydale Railway, which sports a distinctive English, Welsh, Scottish (EWS) livery. Built in 1964 at the English Electric Vulcan Foundry, this preserved BR Class 37 was originally allocated to Cardiff Canton. Over time it has had several liveries, including Dutch and Civil Engineers. In November 2003, the locomotive was allocated to work in France on building the new high-speed lines, before being bought into preservation in 2008 by its current owner. Following its move to the Eden Valley Railway, it made its way to Wensleydale Railway in 2011 where its restoration began.
In addition to these special guests, the NYMR’s own fleet of heritage diesel locomotives will be in action. The NYMR’s home fleet includes; BR Class 37 No. 37264 in the classic 1980s British Rail blue livery and BR Class 37 No. 37688 ‘Great Rocks’, named after a quarry in Derbyshire. Built in 1963 it features an attractive 1980s British Rail Construction sector livery. Plus, No. 47077 Class 47 ‘North Star’ which was built by BR at Crewe Works in 1965; the locomotive carries the distinction of being the last locomotive scheduled to haul a cross-country express service on the UK network on the 19th August 2002.
