Tales on the Rails

We've teamed up with knowledgeable North Yorkshire Moors Railway volunteers to bring you Tales on the Rails aboard our beautifully restored Great Western Saloon
Travel along our historic line through the stunning North York Moors National Park to Pickering and back, while enjoying fascinating talks from retired architect John Ives, exploring the railway's buildings and bridges, and long-serving volunteer David Hardwick, sharing the history of the North Yorkshire Moors Railway.
Onboard
As you listen to the stories from John and David, you'll also receive the following onboard the service:
- A delicious Ploughman's lunch served on the outward journey, with a vegetarian option available on request.
- A drink with your meal, choose from Whitby Gin, Yorkshire beer, lager, a glass of wine or a soft drink.
- Tea or coffee and lemon tart dessert served on the return journey.
- A complimentary guidebook.
Your experience itinerary
- Return journey from Grosmont Station (Dep. 12:35 pm) to Pickering Station and back (Arr. 3:20 pm).
- Travel in our luxury 1940s Great Western Saloon chaperoned by John and David.
- Yorkshire Pork Pie Ploughman's (local butcher pork pie, Yorkshire ham, duo of cheeses, local bakery artisan bread, chutney and salads).
- Dessert with coffee/tea.
A small selection of drinks will be available on board should you wish to purchase more.
Fares & Booking
£75.00 per person, available for people aged 14 or over.

Terms & Conditions
- Guests must be over 14 years old to travel on this service, if you are lucky enough to look under 25 we will require ID before serving you alcoholic drinks.
- You will be travelling with up to 17 other pre-booked guests. Comfortable seating is supplied, however, this will not be accompanied by a table for each person.
