Rail Trail Service Rail Trail Service Travel on our new service ‘Rail Trail’ service. Take a scenic journey behind a steam locomotive from Grosmont to Goathland (approx. 15-20min) and then explore the North York Moors and walk the scenic Rail Trail. Goathland and Grosmont Rail Trail is a 5.6km point-to-point trail which runs alongside the old rail line. This popular walk follows the route of the 1836 railway which began with horse-drawn carriages along the line. Today, the remaining cinder track gives chance to reflect on the history of the railways as well as an opportunity to enjoy a range of beautiful North York Moors scenery including ancient woodland, fast flowing becks and rolling hills. All tickets are return tickets, allowing passengers the option to disembark and walk the ‘Rail Trail’ or return to Grosmont. Those passengers travelling on the return service will have approx. 1hr wait for the return departure, having the option to walk into the village of Goathland. Facilities will be available at Grosmont only. Goathland Station facilities will remain closed and passengers are unable to commence their journey from Goathland. Train Times Monday 14th September – Sunday 1st November 2020 Service 1: Departs Grosmont at 11:00 and returns from Goathland at 12:15, steam hauled. Carer Tickets: These can be booked via the Customer Service team and you will be an issued with a free ticket for your carer when you purchase a standard ticket.
