Experience and explore the 'The Sidings', a wartime street featuring a 1940s style public house with real ale and live entertainment

NEW for 2018: To commemorate the end of WW1 there will be a first world war garage servicing historic military vehicles of the period and a commemoration Dining Car exhibition!  

Friday: 12 October 2018

  • 10:00 to 16:00 Picnic Area & Visitor Centre: WW2 Air Raid Warden demonstrations.
  • 10:00 to 16:00 Atkins Shed Visitor Car Park: WW1 commemoration dining car exhibition. Hear and see the story of a fictional soldier & North Eastern Railway (NER) pantryboy Sam ‘Nipper’ Perkins’. 
  • 11:30 Platform 1: Flag Raising Ceremony.
  • Throughout the day: Evacuee Children depart and arrive at the Station.
  • 11:00 to 17:00 Pickering Station (Car Park): The Sidings: Blitz & Pieces Auxiliary Fire Service display, WW1 garage, NAAFI refreshments, Naval Mine detection display, see displays of Infantry deployment in foxholes plus Operation Fortitude, how we fooled Hitler over D-Day, plus memorabilia stalls and wartime vehicles and our own wartime Public House, The Sidings Inn. 

On the Friday, many of the military and civilian vehicles arrive at the railway.

10:00 to 18:00 Pickering Station (Car Park): The Sidings: Blitz & Pieces Auxiliary Fire Service display, WW1 garage, NAAFI refreshments, Cockleshell Heroes, see displays of Infantry deployment in foxholes plus Operation Fortitude, how we fooled Hitler over D-Day, plus memorabilia stalls and wartime vehicles and our own wartime Public House, The Sidings Inn.

  • 10:00 Market Place: Paul Harper will be performing live music.
  • 10:00 to 16:00 Atkins Shed Visitor Car Park: WW1 commemoration dining car exhibition. Hear and see the story of a fictional soldier & North Eastern Railway (NER) pantryboy Sam ‘Nipper’ Perkins’. 
  • 11:00 Market Place: Foot Parade followed by Military Vehicle Parade.  
  • 11:30 Ricky Hunter sings at the Bandstand in the Sidings. 
  • 12:30 Paul Harper sings in the Sidings Inn. 
  • 13:00 Ricky Hunter entertains at Mulberries Terrace.

The Big Night Out in the Sidings Inn from 17:00 to 22:00 hosted by Ricky Hunter

Fish & Chip Supper available throughout the evening (17:00 - 22:00). Bar open until 10:30. No charge for entry.

  • 10:00 to 16:00 Atkins Shed Visitor Car Park: WW1 commemoration dining car exhibition. Hear and see the story of a fictional soldier & North Eastern Railway (NER) pantryboy Sam ‘Nipper’ Perkins’. 
  • 10:15 Stape Silver Band play at the Bandstand in The Sidings until the arrival of the march. 
  • 10:30 The Sidings (Car Park) Drumhead Service at the Bandstand. 
  • 10:55 Platform 1: Honour Guard and Standards accompany wreath to War Memorial Garden for Wreath Laying and Last Post. 
  • 11:00 Market Place: Civilian Vehicle Parade 
  • 11.15 Mulberries Terrace: Music from Paul Harper.
