Seasonal Pullman Dining Train Stewards

The North Yorkshire Moors Railway operates trains over 18 miles of its own line and an additional 6 miles on the mainline to the seaside town of Whitby. It is a charity and its purpose it to educate the public about the history of the line and to manage, maintain and develop its historic objects (such as heritage locomotives, carriages, archives). Over 1000 volunteers support the continued delivery of the aims and objectives of the North York Moors Historical Railway Trust working with a core paid staff of over 100.

We are currently recruiting seasonal staff for our 2020 season. Various hours and days are available based on the services being run and include weekends and some evenings from April through to January 2021.

The requirements of the role are as follows:

  • To serve customers in a friendly & efficient manner.
  • To assist with the service of food and beverages.
  • To maintain the cleanliness of all areas of the Pullman Train.
  • To ensure all safety & hygiene regulations are followed and maintained.

The main duties include:

  • To serve passenger on the Pullman train as it travels along the line with a combination of silver service and plated meals.
  • Setting and clearing tables and assisting with washing up.
  • Dispensing drinks to passengers from the bar and preparing bills for payment along with loading stock, washing glasses and cleaning bar counters.
  • Assisting with the preparation of starters, desserts.
  • Working as part of a team of up to 14 on each of the services operated.

The location:

The services are based from Grosmont Station – On occasion, trains may commence and finish at either Pickering or Whitby Station.

The Salary: In line with National Living Wage.

You’ll need to have/be:

  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • An enthusiastic and team player.
  • Experience within a catering/dining/kitchen environment preferred although full training will be given.
  • A level 2 food hygiene certificate, or willing to work towards.
  • Flexible approach to work & hours, weekends and bank holidays are standard working days.
