Seasonal On Board Trolley / Charter Stewards

The North Yorkshire Moors Railway operates trains over 18 miles of its own line and an additional 6 miles on the mainline to the seaside town of Whitby. It is a charity and its purpose it to educate the public about the history of the line and to manage, maintain and develop its historic objects (such as heritage locomotives, carriages, archives). Over 1000 volunteers support the continued delivery of the aims and objectives of the North York Moors Historical Railway Trust working with a core paid staff of over 100.

We are currently recruiting seasonal staff for our 2020 season. Various shifts are available at various locations to include weekends. We are looking for part time seasonal staff members and relief staff.

The requirements of the role are as follows:

  • To assist in all aspects of service to visitors and working members on the NYMR in a friendly, professional and profitable manner.
  • To clear tables and keep carriages clean during service.
  • To be responsible for handling money and ensuring the money gets paid in at the end of each shift along with the relevant paperwork.
  • To stock trolleys and buffet cars, rotating stock and ensuring the stores are kept tidy at all times.
  • To ensure the trolley / buffet car is stocked up at the end of the day ready for the following service.
  • To fill and charge water urns for use on trolleys.
  • To complete weekly takings sheets and forward to the supervisor.
  • To assist with deliveries, stock control & ordering when necessary.
  • To record all complimentary drinks issued on a weekly basis, and to pass paperwork to the supervisor.
  • To follow all procedures outlined in the staff handbook and SFBB file, ensuring good food hygiene practices are adhered to at all times.

The Locations:

  • Pickering and Grosmont based stewards. You may on occasions be required to work from other NYMR locations.

The Hours:

  • Pickering – Various shifts available to include weekends, with hours ranging between 8.45am and 19.30pm. Part time and relief staff
  • Grosmont – Various shifts available to include weekends, with hours ranging between 9.00am and 17.30pm. Part time and relief staff

The Salary: in line with National Living Wage
