The North Yorkshire Moors Railway operates trains over 18 miles of its own line and an additional 6 miles on the mainline to the seaside town of Whitby. It is a charity and its purpose is to educate the public about the history of the line and to manage, maintain and develop its historic objects (such as heritage locomotives, carriages, archives). Over 1000 volunteers support the continued delivery of the aims and objectives of the North York Moors Historical Railway Trust working with a core paid staff of over 100.

We are currently recruiting seasonal staff for our 2021 season. Various hours and days are available based on the services being run and include weekends from May through to January 2022.

The requirements of the role are as follows:

  • To serve onboard refreshments to customers in a friendly & efficient manner.
  • To stock trolleys and buffet cars, rotating stock and ensuring the stores are kept tidy at all times.
  • To clear tables and keep carriages clean during service & maintain the cleanliness of trolleys & buffet cars.
  • To ensure all safety & hygiene regulations are followed and maintained.
  • Due to the nature of the trolley, this is a physically demanding role.

The Locations:

  • The services usually depart from either Grosmont or Pickering Station.
  • Please state on your application which location you would prefer to be based from, noting from time to time you may be required to work at other locations if needed.

The Salary: In line with the Real Living Wage.

Who we are looking for:

You’ll need to have:

  • Experience of working in a fast-paced customer-facing role with excellent customer service skills.
  • Flexible approach to work & hours, weekends and bank holidays are standard working days.
  • Self-motivated and confident working on your own following the direction of the Trolley Supervisor.
  • Cash handling & cashing up experience desired, although full training will be given.
  • Transport due to the location (Grosmont).
