About Us Historical Railway Trust Paid Seasonal Vacancies - Grosmont Tearoom Assistants The North Yorkshire Moors Railway operates trains over 18 miles of its own line and an additional 6 miles on the mainline to the seaside town of Whitby. It is a charity and its purpose is to educate the public about the history of the line and to manage, maintain and develop its historic objects (such as heritage locomotives, carriages, archives). Over 1000 volunteers support the continued delivery of the aims and objectives of the North York Moors Historical Railway Trust working with a core paid staff of over 100. We are currently recruiting seasonal staff for our 2021 season. Various shifts are available at Grosmont Tearoom to include weekends. Grosmont Tearoom is a busy tearoom with outside seating offering a range of products including breakfast, plated meals & home baking, along with the usual sandwiches, cakes and ice cream. Frequented by staff from the engine sheds & customers alike offering counter service. Initially, we are looking for cover for approx. 2-3 shifts per week. Additional hours may be available at other outlets or on board the Pullman Train or Trolley Service. The requirements of the roles are as follows: To assist in all aspects of food preparation and service to visitors and working members on the NYMR in a friendly, professional and profitable manner. To maintain the cleanliness of the premises, to clear & wipe tables and keep the tearoom clean and well-stocked. Operating the dishwasher and hand washing pots where necessary. To assist the supervisor with deliveries, stock control & ordering when necessary. To follow all procedures outlined in the tearoom handbook & SFBB file, ensuring good food hygiene practices are adhered to at all times, ensuring the tearoom retains its level 5 food standard rating. The Salary: In line with the Real Living Wage. Who we are looking for: You’ll need to have: Experience of working in a fast-paced customer-facing role with excellent customer service skills. Experienced in working within a catering/kitchen environment is preferable. A level 2 Food Hygiene certificate. Flexible approach to work & hours, weekends and Bank Holidays are standard working days. The ability to work as part of a team & on your own following the direction of the tearoom supervisor.
