Book Experiences Digital Photography Workshops Photography Workshops Photography Courses for the 2022 Season These one-day workshops are ideal for those wishing to learn to use their digital cameras more creatively, whilst photographing trains, stations, people and landscapes along the North Yorkshire Moors Railway. The workshops are designed for photographers of all abilities, and so are offered at a Beginners, and at an Intermediate level, so that you can choose the course that best fits your skills and experience. Led by professional landscape photographer, author and teacher John Potter, you will learn how to take good quality location and landscape images, as well as characterful portraits both at Pickering Station and along the North Yorkshire Moors Railway. On all courses the morning is spent at Pickering Station, working both in the Learning Centre and on the station platforms. John tailors the courses to the exact learning needs of the participants. The Beginners course has just six participants, and there are eight on the Intermediate course, thus allowing enough time and attention to be given to everyone. You will be shown how to use the more creative modes of your camera so that you can take control of ISO settings, exposure, depth of field, white balance and shutter speeds, and you will be given expert guidance on composition for both candid portraits and landscapes. You will travel to Goathland Station on the heritage railway for steam/diesel loco, landscape and station photography. At Goathland, John will demonstrate the best techniques for making top quality landscape images. There will be a short, fifteen-minute walk across the moor to a viewing location for photographing trains passing through Darnholme, and there will be opportunities to photograph trains and NYMR characters as they come and go at Goathland Station. On returning to Pickering, there will be a short wrap-up session where John will process a few images from the day. There will be course notes to take away, together with a small batch of blank greetings cards from John’s range. Afterwards, John can offer e-mail feedback and support for your images taken during the workshop. The course fee includes train travel and refreshments but does not include any personal or equipment insurance. This course is only suitable for adults (18 years plus). You will also need to provide your own digital camera (tripod optional), suitable footwear & waterproof clothing and notebook. Station Tea Rooms at both Pickering and Goathland will be open for refreshments and lunch.
