The 2024 Heritage Open Days are fast approaching, and the North Yorkshire Moors Railway Trust’s (NYMRT) Archive is due to open its doors on 10 and 12 September to some of its many interesting artefacts and materials which are not ordinarily accessible. We would like to give you a preview of some of the artefacts which will be on display.

This week, several old metal signs have come over to the Archive. They were part of a donation to the NYMR’s Wagon Group but, recognising the potential importance of these signs to the NYMRT’s Collection, Sam Cumbor, Carriage & Wagon Manager, drew them to our attention and we were pleased to accept them into the Collection.

One of them, a “North Eastern Railway” public warning sign is shown below.

The second image shows a wagon plate, manufactured by Head Wrightson in 1958 based around Thornaby (near Middlesbrough) – amongst other things, they made railway wagons.

The third image is of a London and North Eastern Railway warning sign.

To see these signs and more, come and visit the Archive during one of the Heritage Open Days. Enquiries about the open days or about the Archive, please email [email protected]
