A core team of paid staff together with approximately 100 full time staff and 50 seasonal staff, plan and operate the train service and work steadily to improve the quality of the infrastructure, the railway vehicles and experience to our visitors travelling on the railway.

With 350,000 people travelling on the NYMR, there is inevitably plenty of administration work to be done behind the scenes. In particular, there is specialist work such as fundraising, where volunteers with the right skills can be involved whilst often working from home.

Volunteering Commitment:

  • Become a member of the railway. 
  • Attend Induction Course. 
  • Commit to attending on average at least two occasions per month or equivalent throughout the season.
  • A reasonable level of health and fitness is required.
