The North Yorkshire Moors Railway is a bridge between the past and the future. For years, we have transported passengers through the spectacular and timeless Yorkshire scenery – but we need to ensure that this journey continues, and the Railway can offer its magic to our future generations. 
 
Our much-loved Paul 'Piglet' Middleton, Director of Mechanical Engineering at NYMR and star of Channel 5’s Yorkshire Steam Railway and Big Steam Adventure, has worked tirelessly here since he was 16 years old, and is instrumental in sharing the magic of steam with our visitors.    

But he can’t take the NYMR into the future without your help. 
 
That's why he's calling on you today to support this special fundraising appeal, Piglet's Journey, and help us raise the vital funds we need to ensure NYMR can run again next Spring.

How your donations help

Unlike other appeals, Piglet’s Journey is much more than a restoration project – we're raising the vital funds that NYMR needs to ensure our trains can run again next Spring.  

Did you know…

•  Each locomotive requires 3 tonnes of coal per day. Last year that cost £540, but this year has increased to £1,350 due to rising fuel costs

•  Most tender engines have 12 brake blocks, and we change them every other month. Each one costs around £100, meaning we spend £7,200 every year on just one locomotive's brake blocks

•  It costs £25,000 to change all eight coach tyres, which must be done every ten years to ensure the train runs safely. With 35 coaches in use during our busy season, that’s a lot of tyres!
