First Wedding at Railway On Saturday 23rd July history was made when the first legally binding wedding ceremony took place on the railway. The couple were married, watched by 110 guests in the Learning Centre on Platform 2 of Pickering Station. After the ceremony the party boarded the teak set for a return, steam hauled trip to Grosmont with afternoon tea served on board. Elizabeth Fletcher and Peter Stevens were officially married by Eileen Clark from Ryedale Disitrict Council at 12noon. This was then celebrated with drinks on the Terrace and pictures on the footplate. After the ceremony the party boarded the teak set of carriages for a return, steam hauled trip to Grosmont with afternoon tea served on board. Elizabeth, originally from Yorkshire, was delighted that they were the first couple to be officially married at the railway. The couple love the romance of the age of steam and the setting of the railway. Two further ceremonies and receptions are booked for later on in 2016 with two bookings already taken for 2017.
