The North Yorkshire Moors Railway (NYMR) is pleased to announce that filming for season three, ‘The Yorkshire Steam Railway: All Aboard’ began this August, after the last season was watched by over 1.05 million per episode.

The second series of the documentary, produced by Darlow Smithson Productions Ltd (DSP), part of Endemol Shine UK, had a market share of 5.6%, which is very impressive and considerably higher than average for both Channel 5 slot and primetime in general. The finale delivered peak viewers of the series with a consolidated average audience of 1.13 million.

Chris Price, General Manager at NYMR, said: “We are delighted with the viewing figures from season two and the great feedback we’ve received from our passengers this year. We hope that season three will be just as loved as the rest of the series, and we look forward to the public seeing it in 2020”.

Season two had viewers hooked right from the first episode, which featured staff at the railway addressing the challenges of keeping trains operating through a National Park during a heatwave. The season also included locomotive 5428 Eric Treacy making a return to traffic and Engine Shed Manager, Piglet, visiting Erica the cat, after she retired from the Motive Power Depot after 15 years of service.

The show also highlighted three of the railway’s popular events; the Annual Steam Gala, Railway in Wartime and the Halloween Train, showcasing the railway at its best, attracting thousands of passengers to the line.

NYMR is a registered charity which provides a high-quality, safe and authentic evocation of the steam age for the public and is currently fundraising £1m as part ‘Yorkshire’s Magnificent Journey appeal. The £9.7m project has received £4.4m grant from the National Lottery Heritage Fund and £1.75 million from the Rural Payments Agency (RPA), as well as contributions from local organisations and private donors.
