Calling keen railway photographers! Enter our 2020 calendar competition

We’re appealing to visitors with a passion for photography to showcase their best railway images and help us create our 2020 calendar.

The 12 most popular photos, as voted by the public, will feature in our calendar. Not only that, each winner will also receive a family ticket (2 adults & 2 children) to this year’s Annual Steam Gala which takes place Friday 27th September to Sunday 29th September 2019.

Photos can be old or new and capture any aspect of our historic railway, whether it’s the amazing scenery that surrounds our much-loved heritage site, the stations, the bridges, the tracks or the trains themselves.

And the fantastic thing about the competition is the public decides on the winners! Once we’ve received all the entries we’ll upload them to our Facebook page and ask fans to choose their favourites, with the 12 most engaged photos featuring in the calendar.

All proceeds raised from sales of the calendar will be donated to Yorkshire’s Magnificent Journey, to help support our charitable trust so we can continue welcoming over 300,000 passengers each year!

Enter the competition

  • Each entrant can submit a maximum of two photos
  • Entries must be sent to [email protected]
  • Each photo must be accompanied by a caption and the name of the photographer
  • Each photo must be A4 in size and at least 300dpi. Landscape preferred, as portrait images may require cropping
  • Colour images required. No monochrome (black or white).
  • The closing date for entries is Tuesday 30th July 2019

Terms and conditions

By submitting an entry to this promotion, entrants agree to be bound by these terms and conditions.

Entry is open to residents of the UK, aged 18 and over. Paid employees of the promotor are not permitted to enter the competition.

To enter, entrants must send their photos to [email protected], with an accompanying caption and the name of the photographer.

Each submitted photo must be at least 300dpi and must contain the original EXIF metadata information. There must be no border(s), logo(s), copyright marks, identifying marks, or any other visible references and/or marks on the image.

Basic editing, including colour enhancement, the use of filters, and cropping of the Photo(s) is acceptable, provided any such editing does not affect the authenticity and/or genuineness of the Photo(s).

Every image submitted is subject to a moderation process before it becomes visible on the Facebook contest page. The promotor reserves the right to assess and disregard any submitted photo at its discretion.

Submitted photos must be original, created and/or taken by the contestant.

Upon making the submission, you grant the promoter license to use, publish, reproduce, display, adapt, create derivative works, distribute, have distributed, print, in whole or in part, in any form, in all media forms now or hereafter known, the submitted image.

The Photographer will be credited wherever the image is used.

The final date for entries is Tuesday 30th July at 5pm. The photos will be uploaded to Facebook on Thursday 1st August. The 12 photos selected will be the 12 that receive the most positive engagement (likes, comments and shares) on NYMR’s Facebook. Likes after Friday 30th August will not count. The NYMR team will decide which photos feature in which month. The judge’s decision is final.

Winners will be notified of their success by Friday 6th September. This competition is in no way sponsored, endorsed, administered by or associated with Facebook. The promoter of this competition is the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, 12 Park Street, Pickering, North Yorkshire, YO18 7AJ.
