On Saturday 15th October a Royal Naval Mine Recovery Section will drive up to Whitby Harbour to recover a British wartime Mk XIV sea mine, washed up on the rocks next to the band stand on the West Pier. Due to take place at approximately 1200hrs.

Once the officer has rendered the mine safe by removing the detonator, the naval personnel will erect some shear legs and using block and tackle lift the mine onto the quayside before loading it onto a vehicle and taking it away for safe disposal.
