24th, 25th & 26th June 2017

Monday 26th June 2017 will be a day to remember for Harry Potter fans old and new as it marks 20 years since the iconic Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone was first published!

Scenes involving Hogsmeade station in the first Harry Potter film were shot at Goathland railway station here at the North Yorkshire Moors Railway.

From the book: The Hogwarts Express stops at Hogsmeade after travelling from King's Cross Station's Platform Nine and Three-Quarters which like Diagon Alley, Muggles cannot penetrate. At the station is a small group of buildings, the large being a resting place for the conductor of the train. Not far down from these buildings are entrance gates to Hogwarts that are located in a clearing of the Forbidden Forest that leads up to the school grounds. Also at the end of the platform, boats are docked awaiting the arrival of Groundskeeper Rubeus Hagrid and the First years.

From an idea born on a train journey to its creation in a small cafe in Edinburgh, Harry Potter has captivated readers of all ages for twenty years and the railway will be marking this magical moment with an amazing offer - children (4-15 years old) dressed as their favourite wizarding characters, including Harry, Ron and Hermione, will travel for free to Goathland from Pickering or Whitby when accompanied by a full fare paying Pickering/Whitby to Goathland day return adult fare. Terms & Conditions Apply.

Every child that visits the railway in fancy dress will also receive a commemorative badge for taking place (while stocks last).

Goathland Station Tearoom will also be getting into the wizarding spirit over our Harry Potter 20th Anniversary celebrations!
