Junior Volunteers
The Junior Volunteers Group seeks to cater for younger volunteers, aged 10 to 16, who are keen to learn more about the operation of the NYMR and who would like to assist with the running of the railway. If you (or a member of your family) are under 16 years of age, there are many activities that you can take part in which do not require the detailed knowledge of rules and safety procedures that are necessary for older volunteers.

Junior Volunteers Group
The main group meets once each month, on a Saturday, from April to October, with occasional additional sessions. Sessions are held at different points on the railway, including the MPD, the Carriage & Wagon Works, the LNERCA restoration shed, Levisham Station and Goathland Station. At the end of July Junior Volunteers Week provides an in-depth, five-day experience of railway work, including activities such as TTI & guarding, loco cleaning, on-train catering, retailing, wagon restoration, stone-walling and fencing.
At present the main group is full, with a waiting list for 2012. Instead of waiting however you might like to consider joining the Sunday Squad.
Junior Volunteers MPD Group
If you are keen on working with locomotives and are aged 14 or 15 you can join the Junior Volunteers MPD Group. The Group meets one Saturday a month at Grosmont MPD, from April to October and also takes part in Junior Volunteers Week. Safety training will be given on joining the group. This group, formed in May 2010, has places available.
Junior Volunteers Sunday Squad
As the name implies, this newly formed group meets on one Sunday each month from April to October. Plans for 2011 so far include working at Pickering in retail and catering, at Levisham helping with station maintenance and at Goathland Station on a range of activities. Opportunities will also arise for additional activities, including joining some Main Group sessions.
