A great weekend for heritage diesel enthusiasts with a number of guest and home-based diesel locomotives on the line.

Loco Info

20 227 Class 20 – built by English Electric company and was the last of the class with a power classification of 1000hp Type 1. Looked after by Class Twenty Loco Society. This loco is painted in Railfreight Grey.

31 271 Class 31 – named ’Stratford TMD 1840-2001’. Built by Brush Traction with a power classification of 1470hp Type 2. Owned by A1A Locomotives Ltd. This loco is painted in Trainload Construction sector livery which was the last colour scheme it carried.

31 128 Class 31 – built by Brush Traction with a power classification of 1470hp Type 2. Owned by Nemesis Rail and on hire for 2010. This loco carries British Rail Blue.

37 264 Class 37 – built by English Electric company with a power classification 1750hp Type 3. This loco may become NYMR based. It is painted in the Large Logo style blue colour scheme from the 80s and 90s.

45 041 Class 45 – named ‘Royal Tank Regiment’. Built by British Railways at its Derby and Crewe Works. Owned by the Peak Locomotive company, this loco carries BR Blue.

It will be all five locomotives first ever visit to the NYMR, although all types have worked on the Moors before. The last time a Class 20 ran was 1984 and that was a pair.
The event should see the first occasion that a Class 20 will have worked a passenger train to the port of Whitby (on the Sunday) and could also see the return of a Class 31 to the Esk Valley branch.

It is planned to run shunter shuttles over one of the days.

Fridays and Saturdays evening Dining trains will be steam hauled between Grosmont and Pickering and it is hoped to have a one of the heritage diesels working a Pie and Pea special from Pickering to Grosmont and return on these nights. The Sunday ‘Moorlander’ will be diesel hauled by 45041 ‘Royal Tank Regiment’.

Timetable will be available soon but will feature as follows:

Friday will be an intensive timetable between Pickering and Grosmont.

Saturday will see through trains to Whitby Town from Pickering.

Sunday will be see trains from Pickering to Grosmont and from Whitby Town to Battersby Junction.
