Education
A wide variety of topics and age groups can be catered for on a visit to the North Yorkshire Moors Railway. Visit the world’s first passenger railway tunnel at Grosmont or take a tour of our engine sheds. Take a walk along the historic Rail Trail or simply give the children an unforgettable experience of steam travel which can be followed up at school with creative writing or topic work.
Learning Programmes
The North Yorkshire Moors Railway is part of an exciting project funded through Renaissance in the Regions, to provide quality Learning Programmes for schools to access on a visit to the Railway. These consist of led sessions covering a choice of History, Science, Geography, Design & Technology, Art and Literacy topics all relating to the Railway and closely linked to the National Curriculum and QCA Units. Initially we have designed the led sessions for Key Stage 2 children. We will eventually be expanding this to encompass inspiring learning experiences for other age groups, including community and adult groups as well as young people.
FREE Outreach Sessions
If you can’t get to us, we can come to you! (Distance permitting – we will currently consider travel up to 90 minutes from the NYMR.) We can deliver exciting outreach sessions in your school – completely free of charge! See our downloadable list of Learning Programmes below.
What we can provide
All led our sessions are currently free, but group fares apply for train travel. Train travel must be booked through Customer Services. Any led sessions can be booked by contacting the Education Officer (details below).
